Rubber Plant

(Ficus elastica)

Ficus elastica, more commonly referred to as the Rubber Plant or Rubber Tree, is a species of plant in the fig genus that derives from southern parts of Asia. This plant is recognized by its robust, shiny, oval-shaped leaves. The Rubber Plant offers a range of unique varieties with stunning foliage such as the ‘Burgundy’, ‘Melany’, and the pink, green, and yellow variegated ‘Tineke’. Smaller sizes of this low-maintenance plant can be placed on tabletops, shelves, or windowsills. Larger, more mature sizes are well suited to make a statement piece as a floor plant.

Performs best in medium to bright, indirect light. Variegated varieties require higher light to maintain their patterned foliage.

Allow the soil to dry 1/3 of the way down before watering thoroughly. Water until excess water flows from the container’s drainage hole. Do not allow your plant to sit in standing water or soggy soil.

Rubber Plants do well with average humidity levels.

The Rubber Plant is a fast-growing plant. Smaller plants may need repotting every year or two. Mature plants can reach 6-10 feet tall. You can prune your Rubber Plant as needed to promote a more desirable shape and height.

Fertilize once a month during the spring and summer months with a diluted, water-soluble, balanced fertilizer.
