FALL VEGGIES
It's August—and you may be thinking the garden is winding down—but it doesn't have to be. With the right timing and the right plants, you can harvest edibles like broccoli, kale, spinach, cabbage, beets and more all the way through fall and into winter.
Jesse walks us through which vegetables you should be starting from seed now versus how to get ahead with starter plants, when to plant leafy greens and root vegetables, how to grow a productive fall container garden.
Whether you plant a fall garden every year or you’re ready to grow your own food for the first time, fall is a great season to dig in. The time to plan and prepare for a fall harvest is now: cooler temperatures make gardening a little more enjoyable, pest pressure begins to ease, and many of our favorite vegetables thrive as summer fades. Plant cabbage, lettuce, spinach, broccoli, kale and more now for fresh harvests throughout the fall—with some leafy greens producing well into the start of winter, beyond our first frost.
