Dracaenas

(D. deremensis, D. fragrans, D. marginata, D. reflexa, and other varieties)

Dracaenas are a large family of popular houseplants that can vary in size, shape, and color. These plants are typically characterized by their narrow, sword-shaped leaves that extend off one or more central cane-like stems. These stems are very sturdy and often lend to unique structures and eccentric foliage. Their easy-going demeanor allows them to tolerate a wide variety of growing conditions. Dracaenas are a great option for both beginners and seasoned plant enthusiasts.

Performs best in medium to bright, indirect light. Some varieties can tolerate lower light settings.

Allow the soil to dry 1/2 to 3/4 of the way down before watering thoroughly. Do not allow your plant to sit in standing water or soggy soil. Brown leaf tips can appear due to improper watering or allowing the soil to stay wet for too long and can be trimmed as desired.

Dracaenas do well with average humidity levels.

Most Dracaenas are slow growers, and size depends on the variety and maturity of the plant.

Fertilize once a month during the spring and summer months with a diluted, water-soluble, balanced fertilizer.

Causes digestive distress if ingested.

Research conducted by NASA has shown that dracaenas are great air-purifiers and can clean toxins such as benzene, formaldehyde, and more from the indoor air.
